Book Review: Black Dagger Brotherhood

Where do I start…maybe with poof! Nah I kid, I kid. But those sentences with “poof my ass out of here” made me laugh. To be honest I was unsure whether to like the books or not. I heard a lot about those and I know this series is pretty popular so that’s what made me read it. I was curious what this buzz was all about. Well in the beginning – after I’ve read 2-3 books – I thought the plot was a bit simple and I don’t want to say “cheep” cuz I’ve grown into it but I did not understand why everybody was so hooked about the series. It has some fighting (of course the vampires/the Brotherhood have enemies) at some point but the main plot is about the love story with it’s difficulties, like getting close (cuz everyone of the Brotherhood is pretty much damaged or has been tortured in most horrible ways, as well some of them have been sexually abused) and the woman they fall in love with has to save them and give them peace. There where of course conversations and backgrounds you had to read about the lessers (the enemies) and I found myself skipping those parts cuz I was sooo not interested and in the end of the book I found out that I didn’t miss anything important. Ok the positive part is that I’ve really grown to like the “brothers”. Everyone has something special but I think their relationship is great and I would have loved just to hang out with them, they’re funny as hell. I trust everyone who read those books has their own favourite and for me it was Vishous followed by Zadist. At this point I have to add: the names! I mean c'mon…Zadist, Rhage, Wrath, Rhevenge etc.??!! But ok, I got used to it. At some point I though the end was always kind of obvious, but mostly I was happy with it so it’s all good.

I believe there is one more book out there that I haven’t read, numero siete. I try to get my hands on it anytime soon.

Btw I think it’s funny how every vampire (in every book!) denies the clichés about them! “No, garlic does no harm to us and no, we don’t sleep in coffins and no, we don’t particularly drink human blood” But at least almost everybody has its difficulties with the sunlight :D

Book Review - Kissed By An Angel by Elizabeth Chandler

That was a loooong read. Since it is a combined triology I have to go by every book.

I really liked the first one. Manly it was about Ivy and Tristan. The first time they saw each other, everything they did together, how they got together. You could see why and how they fell for each other. The characters were well described, the family relations etc.

The second and third books are more mysterious. Gregory, Ivy’s new stepbrother, is one of the main characters. You had a hard time figuring out whether he had good or bad intentions. The same goes for Will. Something was wrong about them, so you needed to keep reading til you figured out what their deal was. Meanwhile Tristan died and became an angel, Ivy’s guardian angel. It totally reminded me of the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, maybe it was the Authors inspiration, I don’t know. By now we got to know that Ivy is in danger but its hard to assume why and who wants to harm her. We get introduced to a new character Lacey, she is an angel and helps Tristan to use his powers to save Ivy. I thought it could have been written shorter. The whole PI related things could have been figured out sooner. Also Ivy romantically involved with 3 (!!) characters is a bid odd and you never knew exactly which one she really wanted and who really wanted her! The scary part was, when the story started it was very ..hm careful? – by the end it turns out that murder is involved and some serious accusations – and lets be real they are 16! Still kids! It felt kinda out of space for me. Anyway I wasn’t happy with the ending especially and surprisingly I was mostly concerned about how it ended for Lacey…and Tristan at some point.. In the beginning I loved Tristan, then I grew for Gregory’s character, well Will..he was a sweet boy and there was something interesting and mysterious about his character (as I’m writing this right now I realized we didn’t get revealed Will’s past even though it was mentioned a couple of times)

It was a good read though, go get it!

Book Review - Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman

This one did blow me away! Just WOW...I have to calm myself first and gather together my thoughts. I think even after I read the half of the book...maybe even before that I realized this one will be one of my all time favourits.

All the books I've read in the past months seem to me like light-happy-literature compared to this one. This was a punch in the face.

I don't really know how to describe it! True? Real? Tradic? Heartbreaking?!! Unfair? Brave! Brilliant? Unforgettable!!! Maybe the fact that it's part of our history at some point?

This topic will never die. Unfortunatly. Jocks vs. nerds, rich vs. poor, black vs. white, gang vs.gang, etc.
This story is about Noughts vs. Crosses until the bitter end. Racism and disrimination is dominating this world.

Caught in the middle: Sophy and Callum. As children best friends, their mothers were friends once until something happened... Still Sophy and Callum were seeing each other but nobody had to know. And then Callum, one of 4 Noughts, was allowed to go to school - a Crosses school - with Sophy. Thats where their and their familys dark path starts...

Sophy and Callum broke my heart and I almost didn't made it through the end...

I can highly recommend it to everyone. It's one of those books with a great message.

I can't wait until I get the next 2 sequels in a few days!!!
